Paypal Challenging Square

E-mail Print PDF

The creation of Square by twitter founder Jack Dorsey was genius in my opinion. SquarePaypal is a mobile payments technology that can revolutionize the way small business owners and vendors can accept payments.  What square does is provide a tiny mobile card reader that plugs into any cell phone in order to be able to swipe a credit card.  The card readers are provided for free.

Square was an innovation but now they have to make room for the competitors and Paypal is one of them.  Paypal has unveiled their new mobile card reader called the “Paypal Here”.  Not only can you swipe credit cards but with the Paypal Here app you are able to accept checks and also can process cards without the card reader.  It also gives you the ability to instantly send a customer an invoice instantly to their e-mail.

Square charges 2.75% per transaction whereas PayPal Here charges a lower rate at 2.7%. I am all for any technology that can help benefit small business owners.  I am sure there will be more innovations coming in the future as far as mobile payment technology is concerned.

Google vs. Face book: The Battle for Ad Dollars

E-mail Print PDF

I recently came across an article discussing the ad revenues of both internet giantsGoogle Vs. Facebook Google and Face book. Although I know that Face book makes a huge amount of money with their ads, I was surprised to read that their revenue from display ads is greater than that of Google’s. I guess know that I think about it there are display ads everywhere you go on Face book.

The numbers were released as follows: The totals for the end of this year have Face book gaining the slight edge in display ad revenues with $2.6 billion versus $2.5 billion for Google. Facebook may not have that lead for long though as projections have Google ahead by the end of next year. Google will blow by Facebook with projections of $3.7 billion versus $3.3 billion. As far as any other competitors go there is no surprise that yahoo is a distant third in this battle for ad dollars. Until someone else can come into the picture these two should remain as the leading players in online ad revenues for the near and medium future.
