NewsReviews of Light Reading continue to be very positive. Susanna Jager, writing in The Sunday Telegraph, called it 'refreshingly different... Whiteley's story is grim, her humour the blackest, and the ending is a shock.' My Weekly magazine had this to say on their Book Group page: Don't be fooled by the title - this dark detective story is full of mystery and intrigue with a truly shocking twist. After a woman's apparent suicide on the RAF base where they live, Pru and her best friend Lena set off on a criminal investigation to discover the truth. Reader Margot from Walsall added: Compulsive reading - wonderfully descriptive writing with a beautiful turn of phrase and attention to detail that carries the reader to the scenes depicted. Now magazine, naming it their pick of the week, said '...definitely not a fluffy read. A weird page-turner with a surprise ending.', awarding it four out of five stars. The It's A Crime website called it 'the new millennium's British Thelma and Louise' and named Aliya as 'one to watch within the crime scene'. Many thanks to author of Testament, Alis Hawkins, who said 'Light Reading is a highly successful novel, written with a light touch but deep understanding, about people.' Up and coming author Drew Gummerson called Light Reading, 'Hugely enjoyable' on a review that can be read on Amazon.co.uk. Author Martin Edwards said, 'Aliya Whiteley is a novelist with genuine flair. I shall certainly watch out for whatever she writes next.' And Eurocrime said, 'Light Reading is another winner from Macmillan New Writing' Aliya's shared blog with writer Neil Ayres has moved to a new address. Come along to the Veggie Box Blog to get updates on their joint projects, as well as Aliya's novels, short stories, and fortnightly delivery of fresh organic vegetables. All recipes gratefully received. Aliya has a new sci fi short story up at Fusion Fragment magazine this month. The short story, entitled For Rosebud, is a merging of War of the Worlds and Citizen Kane, and shows Aliya's darker, more challenging side as a writer.
The paperback cover of Light Reading is now available to view at Amazon.co.uk. The cover is designed to have a strong impact on the reader, but with a quirky retro feel that captures the flavour of the book, which will be released in April 2009. p> |
